Concerned Christian of Brundidge to ‘walk for Jesus’ Saturday

The 18th Annual Walk for Jesus will be Saturday in Brundidge. The walls of the church will come down and everybody will be blessed, said Rev. Willie Moultry, an event organizer.

“The main purpose of the Walk for Jesus is to take Jesus out of the four walls of the church and out to where everybody can experience Him,” Moultry said. “Not everybody goes to church. Not everybody has the strength to go to church. So we want to take Jesus to them. The Walk for Jesus is a way to reach those who don’t go to church.”

The Walk for Jesus will get underway at 10 a.m. at New Jerusalem Church on Galloway Road and follow a Main Street route to Pike County High School. Walkers may join in at Galloway Park, the Piggly Wiggly or in the downtown area. Those who cannot walk may have a car in the walk.

“At Pike County High School, we’ll have a short prayer service and then go to Galloway Park for our Fun Festival,” Moultry said. “At the festival, Rev. Ed Shirley will do our pre-show. We’ll have two pastors that will speak; gospel choirs will sing and we’ll have solos. There will be two or three testimonials by people who been delivered up by God.”

And there will be something for fun and interest for all ages — games and bouncy houses for the children, basketball for the teens, Bingo for older adults and food from the grill.

Moultry said attendance at this year’s Walk for Jesus is expected to exceed all other years.

“We have been challenged at times and there have been times when we thought we could not make budget,” he said. “But this year, more churches are participating. They have come up and given food items and just helped in many ways.”

Moultry said he believes the reason for the outpouring of support for the Walk for Jesus is that the people of Brundidge are dedicated to dropping the barriers.

“When we drop barriers and show love, then we are doing God’s will,” he said. “We invite people from every denomination and all walks of life to join us for the Walk for Jesus on Saturday.”

The Walk for Jesus is sponsored annually by the Concerned Christians of Brundidge.
