Man arrested on 10 total charges

The Troy Police Department has released details behind an incident July 8 when a Troy man was arrested on a litany of charges including reckless endangerment and attempting to elude.

Police Chief Randall Barr said police responded to a call of “shots fired” in the 200 block of Love Street at 12:30 a.m. Saturday and made contact with a white Lincoln MKZ parked in the area.

The driver and only occupant of the car was Willis Lydell Cogburn, 29, of Troy.

“While officers were speaking with Cogburn, he attempted to drive away in reverse with an officer caught in the A frame of the driver’s door,” Barr said. “After a short distance, the vehicle crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle before coming to a stop.”

Cogburn was immediately taken into custody and the officer was not injured.

Cogburn was ultimately charged with ten crimes including reckless endangerment, obstructing governmental operations, attempting to elude, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of drug paraphernalia, first –degree possession of marijuana and four counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Cogburn was booked into the Pike County Jail on a total of $16,000 bond on one Class C felony, four class D felonies and five misdemeanor charges.
