The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans have returned the court for summer play and are ready to improve on last season’s success.

Coach Dyneshia Jones and the Lady Trojans made a trip to the Final Four last year and finished with a 30-6 record.

This summer the Trojans have hit the floor running by playing in tournaments at Alabama A&M, Auburn University and the University of Alabama.

“We have been working on what we need to improve on,” Jones said. “There is always work. We are working on team camaraderie, trying to learn each other again. We have been playing good teams and we have been trying to get an idea on what we need to work on.”

The Trojans have yet to field a full team this summer with so many other sports doing summer work, but so far Jones has liked what she has seen.

“We have been doing pretty good,” Jones said. “We are doing a great job even without a full squad; I am proud of them.”

The players that have been at camp have on improving strength and fundamentals.

“We want to keep working hard and getting better,” Jones said. “We are going to finish of this week and next week. We have June to work hard. Even in their own time, they know what they need to work on and they need to do it now.”

There will be no sitting on their laurels after last season’s run to state. “They have been ready to go and do things together,” Jones said. “We have ridden eight hours on a bus in one day and they enjoy that. They play games and we stop and eat. They enjoy that stuff and they are excited.”

The Trojans will have one more week to work. They will host Sidney Lanier at the middle school on Monday. They will travel to Eufaula on Tuesday before closing out the summer in Hoover on Thursday and South Alabama on Friday.
