Local artists are invited to another “open mic” night in Downtown Troy this weekend.

The event, coordinated by the Downtown Association and the City of Troy, takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. on the Square and is free to the public.

“Downtown open mic events showcase our local talented singers and musicians,” said Leigh Anne Windham, who works for the City of Troy and helps coordinate downtown activities. “Open Mic gives the participants an opportunity to gain exposure and experience performing in front of a crowd.”

Previous events have proven popular. “These events are very entertaining and a lot of fun for the community to attend,” Windham said. “We encourage you to make a day of it in Downtown Troy on Saturday.

“You can start with breakfast or brunch, do some shopping, have some lunch, check out the art at the Johnson Center and then end up at open mic at 5 p.m.”

Lenny Trawick will be coordinating the open mic event and will also be playing a few songs himself.
