The Charles Henderson Trojans enter the season’s final game with a 6-3 overall record. The Trojans welcome in the 6A Northview Cougars this evening on Senior Night.

The Charles Henderson Trojans ride into this evening’s contest with Northview ready to finish the regular season on a high note.

The Trojans (6-3) had a short week to prepare for the 6A Cougars.

“It’s a little different being on Thursday night,” said Trojans head coach Brad McCoy. “The kids have handled it pretty well. We bumped everything up a day, and I think we got our work in. I think we are prepared.”

The Trojans clinched a playoff berth with a win last week, but they don’t plan on taking things easy.

“We certainly want some momentum heading into the playoffs,” McCoy said. “You never want to go into the first week of the playoffs negatively. We are going to do everything we can to keep the momentum and hopefully go 3-0 (to end the season).”

If the game dictates it, McCoy would like to empty the bench and give different players the chance to play.

“If the game presents that way we would love for our young guys to get some more reps,” McCoy said. “If there were a game where our young guys get in, it would be this game.”

Northview is 0-9. The two teams have met several times over the years with the Trojans winning five of the six meetings.

“We are familiar with them having played them the last few years. They have kind of fell on hard times recently, but they are a very talented team,” McCoy said. “They are athletic, as athletic as anyone we have played all season. We are going to have to play a quality football game.”

The Cougars are averaging 14 points per game and have scored over 20 points just once.

“Northview runs the spread,” McCoy said. “They like to play with three or four wide outs. Against Dothan they showed some new sets where they played with some tight ends..”

After missing a half of football a week ago because of the flu, McCoy expects to see starting quarterback DQ Toney return.

“He rested all weekend and has had a good week of practice,” McCoy said. “He looked more like himself today (Wednesday) and I think he will be a full-time participant.”

Toney will face a defense that has surrendered 35 points per game. They will line up with three and four down lineman. “Hopefully we can make them work and have them line up in different sets and see if we can find a weakness,” McCoy said.

The Trojans will have the opportunity this evening to say goodbye to their 12 seniors during senior night.

“It’s always nice to be able to give them the recognition that they deserve,” McCoy said. “We get the families out there with them and that is always nice. We get to shake their hands and hug their necks and tell them how much their kids have given to this program and to the school.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy.
