Eagles preparing for PCHS

With the region schedule in the rear view mirror and a spot in the playoffs wrapped up, the Goshen Eagles travel to Brundidge to take on the Class 3A Pike County Bulldogs on Friday.

The Eagles (6-2, 4-2) hope to have some fun against the in-county rival Pike County.

“If we go down there and play well it will be fun,” said Eagles head coach Bart Snyder. “If we go down there and get our socks knocked off us, there won’t be any fun in that.”

The Eagles face a 7-1 (6-0 in region) Bulldog team that has already wrapped up the Class 3A Region 3 championship.

“We look forward to going down there an playing a well-coached ball team under coach (Fred) Holland and his group,” Snyder said. “It will be good crowd to go down there and play in front of.”

The Eagles are looking to erase last week’s 49-27 loss to New Brockton. “We have addressed it all week,” Snyder said. “There is no excuse, but a little change makes a big difference. We had a several guys missing from being sick and had guys playing different positions … Our guys are understanding and they are working hard.”

The Eagles and the Bulldogs are familiar with each other, having had played 21 times. The Bulldogs won last year’s meeting 53-0 and lead the series 17-3-1.

“We have to execute, block and make tackles,” Snyder said. “That was the key last Friday against New Brockton. We can’t do that against this group. They have the most physical running backs that we are going to face.”

Snyder believes to be successful they are going to have to control a physical Bulldogs running attack.

“I expect that they will mix it up really good,” Snyder said. “They do an extremely good at that both offensively and defensively. It’s what gives those guys a chance to win.”

The Eagles have a running attack of their own, led by Damion Passmore, Zach Alford and Cory Peterson. The Bulldogs will counter with a big strong defensive line.

“We are just going to have to block them for a few seconds,” Snyder said. “We hope to have the opportunity to get by them. They are not just big, but they are good athletes. Our guys are going to have to find the entire against a team that is as big and strong as they are.”

After Friday, the Eagles will have just one game remaining until the start of the post season and Snyder would like to see bring a little more intensity to practice.

“That’s what we didn’t have last week,” Snyder said. “It was kind of disappointing that they didn’t work as hard as we would have wanted them to. They didn’t absorb as much as we thought.”

Kick off is 7 p.m. at Bulldogs Stadium in Brundidge.
