Pike County closed out area play undefeated when they defeated Beulah 34-7 on homecoming.

The Pike County Bulldogs played solid football in all three phases of the game to come away with a 34-7 homecoming victory on Friday over the Beulah Bobcats.

Bulldogs quarterback Jaidyn Wilson accounted for the majority of Pike County’s points, scoring two touchdowns on the ground and tossing a 30-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Juhmir Lampley with 25 seconds left in the first half.

Wilson scored the most points for the Bulldogs, but junior running back Jahzarian Lampley led the offense in yards.

Lampley ran for 183 yards on the night and a touchdown on a 54-yard run in the third quarter.

When the game was still close early in the second quarter, the Bulldogs converted on an unusual trick play on fourth down to keep a drive alive.

At their own 44-yard-line and needing 13 yards for a first down, the Bulldogs lined up for a punt. The lineman then broke from those spots and ran around in a circle before resetting with the line overloaded to the right.

Before Beulah could react, Pike County snapped the ball and the punter ran 25 yards for the first down.

Head Coach Fred Holland talked about the play after the game.

“It’s something we’ve had for a while,” Holland said. “We thought it was a good time to try it out.”

The Bulldogs turned the ball over on a red zone fumble later in the drive, but almost immediately made up for it by recovering a fumble of their own, which led to a 28-yard touchdown by Wilson.

Defensively, Beulah couldn’t do much against Pike County, gaining a total of only 100 yards before nearly doubling their yardage with a 96-yard touchdown drive in the last minutes of the game.

The garbage-time touchdown was the first real scoring threat Beulah posed in the game.

Holland said that he was proud of the way his team played in the win.

“We played pretty good to finish up the region,” Holland said. “I think we played really well to pull out a win like we did tonight. There’s always room for improvement though. We’re trying to steadily get better every game.”

Pike County will remain at home for next week’s contest against the Goshen Eagles.
