Huner and Wiregrass Cardinals win tournament classic

Current Charles Henderson High School Baseball player Brock Huner and the Wiregrass Cardinals 15U Baseball Team won the 2016 Gary “Tiny” Bernath Wiregrass Cardinals Classic this past weekend in Dothan, Alabama.

The 15U Cardinals went a perfect 4 and 0 on their way to claiming the championship. On Friday, the Cardinals defeated Dothan Post 12 by a score of 5 to 1 and the Florida Express 18-8.

On Saturday, the wins continued as the Cardinals defeated Marianna 6 to 5 to advance to the championship game. In the tournament final the Wiregrass Cardinals 15U defeated the Florida Express 13 to 7.

For the summer, the Wiregrass Cardinals have improved their record to 13 – 11 having won 10 of their last 12 games. During that stretch the Cardinals won the 2016 Alabama State Games 15U Baseball Tournament, finished third in the Dixie Boys 15U State Tournament and won the Gary “Tiny” Bernath Classic.

The 15U Cardinals are preparing to play in the Dixie Boys 15U World Series to be played at historic Eagle Stadium in Ozark, Alabama July 21-24.

Huner has played in 22 of the 24 games collecting 21 hits in 52 at bats. He is batting 0.404 with 19 RBI’s and scoring 12 runs. He leads the team in base-on-balls with 17.  On the mound, Huner has pitched in 7 games compiling a 4 and 0 record. In 23.1 innings, Huner has a team leading ERA of 0.60. In addition, Huner has been invited to travel with the Wiregrass Cardinals 17U team as they participate in the 2016 AAU National Championships in Sarasota, Florida July 11-17.
