A single-vehicle crash at 3:10 p.m. Friday, May 27, has claimed the life of a Midway, Ga., woman and landed another in jail.

According to  Alabama State Troopers, Pamela Johnson, 47, was killed when the 2014 Jeep Wrangler, in which she was a passenger, ran off the roadway and struck a tree. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Jeep, Charla Jeanette Farmer, 47, of Montgomery, was transported to the Crenshaw County Jail and charged with manslaughter.  No bond amount has been set.

The crash occurred on Crenshaw County 30 (Beaver Pond Road) one mile west of the Pike and Crenshaw County Line.  The preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in the crash, according to the trooper release.  Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
