Rams get past Trojans

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans surrendered two five-run innings in their 16-9 loss to Headland on Tuesday.

The Lady Trojans also allowed a four-run inning in the sixth inning.

The Trojans sent three pitchers to the mound, starting with Molly Kate Sanders. The starter lasted just an inning and a third, allowing seven runs, six of them earned off nine hits. Emma Kirkpatrick followed and pitched the next three and three-thirds innings, while allowing six total runs, five of them earned from eight hits. Lakin Turner pitched the final inning, allowing three runs on three hits.

The Trojan offense accumulated 13 hits on the night. Kirkpatrick, Tucker Earles, Turner and Whitaka Lowery all finished with two hits. Lowery drove in three runs, while Jaicee Todd and Kirkpatrick each had two.

After falling behind 7-3 after two innings, the Trojans battled back to take the lead in the third when they scored five runs to go up 8-7. The Trojans had a RBI singles by Todd that scored Turner as well as one by Lowery that scored Lindsey Fox. The big hit in the inning came off the bat of Kirkpatrick who doubled to score both Todd and Lowery to give the Trojans the lead.

The Trojans increased their lead to 9-7 in the fifth inning when Turner scored on a groundout by Todd.

Headland bounced back in the bottom of the fifth and scored five runs on six hits to go up 12-9. Headland followed that up with a four run sixth inning when four players reached safely on hits.

The Trojans will be back in action on Thursday when they host Trinity at 3 p.m., followed by a game against Pike County at 5 p.m.
