The G.W. Long Rebels scored eight runs in the seventh inning and pulled away from Goshen in an 11-3 win on Tuesday.

“I thought it was one our better games,” said Eagles head coach Amy Warrick. “G.W. Long has a really good team. It was one of our most focused and well pitched games of the season until the end. We kind of lapsed and didn’t focus at the end. It shows us what they could do if they stay focused. If we stay focused and play like we should than I feel like this team is going upwards.”

Sydni Garrett took the hill on Tuesday afternoon. She surrendered 10 runs in 6 2/3 innings.

The Rebels took advantage of two walks in the first inning and jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Eagles. With runners on the corners the Rebels converted on a sacrifice fly.

The Rebels were able to hold the Eagles until the bottom of the third inning. The Eagles evened up the score when Kelly was hit by a pitch that scored Calhoun. A single off the bat of Thomas to right field, scoring Gamble to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

The Eagles attempted to even the score in the bottom of the fifth when Gamble singled. Calhoun attempted to score on the hit, but was thrown out at the plate, while Gamble was thrown out at second while trying to advance to end the inning.

After the fifth inning the wheels came off for the Eagles. After both teams went scoreless in the sixth inning, the Rebels sent 12 batters to the plate and scored 8 runs on six hits to go up 11-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

“I thought Sydni was a little tired,” Garrett said. “I wanted them to see something different. G.W. Long is just a really good hitting team so I don’t want to take anything away from them.”

The Eagles were able to push across one run when Lexi Ellisor tripled with two outs in the inning to close out the scoring at 11-3.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they host Ariton.
