Charles Lamar Wood, Sr.

Wood, Mr. Charles Lamar Sr., 86, a resident of Grady, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church with Rev. Lloyd Hodge and Rev. Chuck Francisco officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Home Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.  Mr. Wood was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church, as well as serving as both a deacon and as the Sunday School superintendent there.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was also a Mason and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Compton Wood, two sons, Lamar Wood and Lanny Wood, his parents, J. Ray and Dollie O. Wood, two sisters, Dorothy Harris and Nadine Boswell, and four brothers, Joe Wood, Thomas Wood, Alvin Wood, and Donald Wood.  He is survived by his wife, Laura Ivey Wood, daughter, Cecelia Fran (Chuck) Wood-Quakenbush, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his brother, Cody (Carol) Wood.  The deacons from Friendship Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.  The family would like to specially thank Dr. John Reardon, the Montgomery Cancer Center, Gentiva Hospice, and caregiver Mary Bruner for their help, love, and support during Mr. Wood’s illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to one’s favorite charity. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 – 11am.
