The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans softball team tallied 12 hits in their 12-3 win over Greenville on Tuesday.

“I think we are starting to take small baby steps in the right direction,” said head coach Robin Snyder. “We had several quality at bats. Overall when you walk away with a win, you are definitely satisfied.”

Sidney Armstrong led the Trojans, going 3-4 with three RBIs. All but two Trojans got a hit in the game.

“They were swinging at good pitches and not at high or low balls,” Snyder said. “You have to swing at quality pitches. Sidney did a good job at going up there and swinging at the right pitches.”

The Trojans scored four runs in the top half of the first inning off five hits, including doubles by Emma Kirkpatrick, Armstrong, Tucker Earls and Rose Snyder.

After both teams went scoreless in the second inning, the Trojans scored three more runs in the third inning for a comfortable 7-0 lead.

Armstrong led off the inning with her second straight double. After both runners moved up on a wild pitch and a defensive error, Snyder smacked a double scoring both runners. Snyder scored the final run of the inning on a base hit by Lakin Turner.

Turner also pitched all seven innings allowing only three runs off eight hits while striking out nine batters.

“She did a great job at keeping the batters off balance,” Snyder said. “She was throwing changeups, screwballs and curveballs and just keeping the batters off balance.”

The Trojans added another run in the fourth and fifth innings before erasing any doubt with another three-run inning in the sixth.

Kirkpatrick scored the inning’s first run on a groundout by Armstrong. Abby Barron singled scoring Molly Kate Sanders who reached first on a bunt single. Deizah Holland came in to pinch run for Barron and she came around to score on an error by the center fielder.

The Trojans will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to play Trinity. They play an area game against Rehobeth at home on Tuesday.
