Styron named all-state

Goshen Eagles senior defensive lineman Shelby Styron has been named to the second team All-State team for his play during the 2015 season.

Styron was the only member of the Goshen football team to make all-state and head coach Bart Snyder believes it was an award that was well deserved.

“Anytime you have anybody named to an all-state team it’s an honor,” Snyder said. “Especially when it comes to someone like Shelby. He has a 4.0 GPA. He works really hard to be successful in life, in school and on the football field.”

Although Styron won the award based on his play as a defensive lineman, the senior had success playing multiple positions in 2015. As a senior he played center and multiple positions on the defensive line.

“He would play any position that we needed him to,” Snyder said. “He had to move to the center position. He went from defensive end to middle linebacker. He did whatever it took to get continue our streak of making the playoffs.”

Even though this a great honor, Snyder believes that Styron’s humble nature will always put the performance of his team before his own.

“He is a team player,” Snyder said.” He is great at that. He is excited and he is proud that he made it.”

Styron makes the 10th player to be named all-state from the Pike County area.

Editor’s note: Styron’s name was omitted from an article about local all-state players that published in Thursday’s Messenger. We regret the error.
