Southside Baptist Church is hosting Thanksgiving dinner for those who will be alone for the holiday and for those who need and would appreciate a Thanksgiving meal.

Elaine McLeod said Southside, American Legion Post 70 and individuals are contributing to the meal in hopes of making the holiday one of true thanksgiving.

“Being alone on Thanksgiving is no way to spend the holiday, either as an individual or a couple or as a family in need,” McLeod said. “Last year, we cooked the Thanksgiving meal at the American Legion Post in Troy and served about 80 plates. We want to thank Post 70 for supporting us. This year, we will have a larger dining area and we will also have a kitchen, which will make preparing the meals more convenient.”

The Thanksgiving meal will include turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, corn casserole, copper pennies, green beans and rolls.

“And, we’ll have homemade desserts and we have some good cooks at Southside,” McLeod said.

The Thanksgiving meal will be served in the Southside Baptist Church Fellowship Hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day. There will be no take-outs.

“This is a time to enjoy a good meal and the fellowship of others,” McLeod said. “We invite all those who would benefit from a good meal and the fellowship of others on this special day of thanksgiving.”

The doors will be open to all who will come. The invitation is open.

“You don’t have to let anyone know you are coming. We’ll greet you at the door,” McLeod said.
