Management workshop Sept. 19

Alabama Extension will host a Pond Management Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Lake Simmie in Brundige.

Heath Wesley, Pike County Extension coordinator, said the workshop will be of interest and benefit to anyone who has a pond or is planning for a pond on his or her property.

The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end around 1:30 p.m.

Pond owners who bring samples will have an opportunity to have the aquatic plants that inhabit their ponds identified from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m.

Topics of discussion with include “Managing Ponds for Good Fishing” by Rusty Wright, PhD, Fisheries Extension Specialist; “Controlling Aquatic Plant Growth in Your Pond,” by Claude E. Reeves, extension specialist; and “Wildlife Nuisance Control of Otters, Beavers and Birds” by Jordan Graves, regional extension agent.

“After lunch, we will have an electro fishing or pond shocking demonstration with results and explanation by Claude Reeves and Rusty Wright,” Wesley said. “This will be a very interesting and amazing demonstration. All pond owners will want to see this one.”

The workshop is free but registration is required.
