Log Cabin Days got off to a great start at Pioneer Village Friday with nine shops open for business and strollers in vintage clothing lending authenticity to the event.

Keith Blankenship, of Two Brothers Management , said there was plenty of lemonade and front porch shade to refresh visitors to the village on a rather warm summer day. “I was pleased with the number of people who stopped at Log Cabin Days and we are looking forward to a big Saturday (today) from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.,” he said. “Davy Crockett will be at the village all day with his adventurous tales of pioneer days and the Battle of the Alamo.”

Davy Crockett is portrayed by Old Alabama Town’s Al Bouler, a noted Crockett expert and an experienced first person interpreter. Bouler will be authentically dressed in a coonskin cap and rawhide chaps. “Davy Crockett likes to visit with kids and adults enjoy him just as much,” Blankenship said. “He brings history to life with his true tales and stories about the Alamo.”

Shirley Blankenship will be busy spinning in the demonstration cabin and nine other cabins will be open with a variety of items for sale including antiques. William and Jane Denison have been shopkeepers at Pioneer Village for several years. The couple has collected junk and more junk and anybody that enjoys plundering will be in plunder heaven at the Denison “junk shop.”

But browsing and plundering are just part of the fun at Log Cabin Days at Pioneer Village. There will be cakewalks and games for the kids and the young at heart. The Pioneer Village shops and restaurant will also be open from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
