The City of Troy and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce are coordinating a downtown event to take advantage of fifth Saturday in May to gather for good food, good music and good fellowship on The Square in Downtown Troy.

Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy said said downtown merchants and restaurants had been pushing to have regular events on The Square and merchants, restaurants and the Downtown Committee really liked the idea of having a “fifth” Saturday event.

“This allows for five opportunities over the next 12 months to have events downtown,” Windham said. “The marketing group of the Downtown Committee came up with the idea of the first event being a more of a food and music festival.”

Activities will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday.

“The downtown restaurants will be set up on the Square offering a fantastic variety of delicious food items,” Windham said. “Sweet Rack will be doing parfaits with different kinds of meats and sides.”

And, while the restaurants downtown will be having specials and a variety of foods to try, Windham said downtown merchants would more than likely have sales as well.

“Definitely look for downtown merchants to be having sales and specials in conjunction with the event,” Windham said.

Windham said the committee had worked hard to find a happy medium to ensure the event would be family-friendly and along with food and music, Windham said there would be fun games to participate in as well.

“Along with the food and music, there will be fun games including corn hole, ladder ball and yard bowling,” Windham said. “This event will definitely be fun for everyone – families and students included.”

Lenny Trawick will be overseeing open mic in the gazebo, and Windham said anyone wishing to participate could give her a call for more information and to get on the list to participate.

“Each performer will have around 12 minutes,” Windham said. “It’s a great opportunity for budding young artists or anyone who wants to get up there and show off their pipes.”

Fifth Saturdays are sponsored by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce’s Downtown Committee and the City of Troy. Windham said she hoped everyone would come out this Saturday and enjoy a great afternoon on The Square.

“The Square is the perfect venue to host an event for our community,” Windham said. “It’s beautiful, shady and cool. The food and music fest will offer an environment that is friendly to people of all ages. There’s nothing better to bring people together than great food and music. The more events like this that we can offer this community the better.”
