Although the Farmer’s Market has not “officially” opened in its new location, participants said the trial run on Saturday was a success.

Greens of Pronto, Collins Produce and The Berry Patch of Alabama come together to form the Farmer’s Market that Troy has grown to know and love the past five or so years. Each business has high hopes for the new location at Bicentennial Park on U.S. 231.

“We love this,” said Darthy Young with Collins Produce. “I love the grass. This area is cooler and there is shade. Hopefully we’ll get traffic from 231.”

Collins Produce offers vegetable such as white sweet corn, new red potatoes, green beans, yellow squash, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and field corn.

Tammy Buzzan, some know her as “The Greens Lady” with Greens of Pronto, takes pride in the fact that she grows things that most people don’t, and it is different than what can be found in stores.

“We grow a little of everything, and we grow everything naturally,” Buzzan said. Pointing to her produce, she said she picked it all the night before.

“I like mingling with people and providing them with fresh produce,” she said. Buzzan said there have been a lot of new faces, but people need to know about the new location.

The Berry Patch packed up early as they sold out before closing time. They sell different kinds of fruit, and try to add a new product each year. This year they sold honey, and next year they plan to offer kiwi.

“It’s amazing to me the number of people that use honey to help allergies,” said Nick D’Andrea with The Berry Patch.

Customers were constantly trickling in and out, and not one of them left unhappy or without a purchase.

“It’s wonderful to see them out with fresh vegetables this early,” said Bobbie Davis after making a purchase from Collins Produce. “They have an excellent selection. I will definitely be back.”

“We hope to have a good year this year,” said Cliff Boutwell, market manager.
