It was a soggy start to Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the Troy Trojans Wednesday night at Riddle-Pace Field.

Rain and lightning pelted the stadium off and on for a good hour sending most of the fans to shelter. That didn’t stop the players from putting on a show for fans during a rain delay that pushed the start of the game back two hours and three minutes.

During rain delays of college baseball games it’s a growing tradition for players of the opposing teams to put on skits and dances to entertain the fans during delays.

The Mavericks and the Trojans didn’t disappoint Wednesday night. The players treated fans to a jousting match that saw two players sitting on teammates shoulders in catcher’s equipment. That was just the beginning; the players closed the show with a dance completion and a tag-team wrestling match between the two teams.

Play finally got underway at 9:03 when the Troy Trojans took the field against the University of Texas-Arlington Mavericks. At presstime, the Trojans were trailing the mavericks 6-2.

After the rain delay, Lucas Brown took the mound for the Trojans and struggled in the first inning allowing three runs on five hits. Levi Scott had the big hit for the Mavericks scoring Sean Mclean. Inning did end on a positive note for the Trojans; right fielder Logan Hill threw out what would have been the fourth run of the inning.

The Trojans answered quickly in their half of the first inning when Matt Sanders led off the inning with a triple off Mustang starting pitcher Chad Nack. He scored on sacrifice fly off the bat of Reid Long. The Trojans left two runners on base in the inning but cut the deficit to two runs.

Brown regained his form in the second inning. After a leadoff walk to Keenan Hall, brown cam back to strikeout the side.

With one out in the second inning, The Trojans inched a little closer when Clay Holcomb sent a pitch deep into the Trojan night cutting the Mustang lead to 3-2.
