Park said “Band Geeks” is a tribute to high school marching bands and geeks everywhere.

“I first saw ‘Band Geeks’ when it was performed at Troy University in 2012,” Park said. “I was impressed with the music and the choreography and especially the message about the importance of the arts in the high school curriculum.

“‘Band Geeks’ is about a high school band that was close to extinction and how the band members united and saved the band. ‘Band Geeks’ is about learning to appreciate the band geeks and their music and the importance of the band to the school. It’s about learning to appreciate the arts.”

Including the cast and crew about 30 students are involved in the production.

“We held auditions the last of February and began practicing March 2 and have been going from 6 until 9 p.m. three to four nights a week.

“The show is two hours of constant singing and dancing so the hardest part for me is keeping up the energy,” Taylor Montgomery said. “I know when we have an audience that will be much easier.

The cast members said “Band Geeks” has been a positive experience.

Patrick Jackson said the opportunity to play the role of Jake is a dream come true.

“Ever since I saw Troy University’s production, I have wanted to play Jake,” he said, adding that the play has also brought greater awareness of others. “This play is about accepting others who are different from you. It’s about treating everyone with respect no matter their background or upbringing.”

Montgomery said, too, the play focuses on the differences in people and the need to be accepting of those differences.

“‘Band Geeks’ proves that everyone struggles with insecurities, so there’s no need to be alone,” he said.

Dress rehearsals are underway for the weekend performances. Nelsey Leverette said seeing everything come together feels great.

“All of the hard work we’ve put into the show is finally paying off,” she said. “We invite everyone to come see the show.”
