The City of Brundidge hosted Kindergarten Fun Day on the grounds of the historic Bass House Friday morning.

The city co-sponsored the annual event with Henry Everett, Banks music teacher.

“This is the third year for Kindergarten Fun Day for the kindergarten students in the Pike County Schools,” Everett said. “Troy has a similar event for the kindergarten kids in the city schools and it’s a great event. I wanted the kindergarten kids in the county schools to have the same type experience. The City of Brundidge has been a partner in Kindergarten Fun Day since the beginning. The children have a fun time learning about the services Brundidge and Pike County provide for us.”

At the close of Kindergarten Fun Day, the kindergarten students released balloons in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Day. One hundred and ninety kindergarten students from Pike County, Goshen and Banks participated.

Everett said the children visited the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library and had a story read to them.

“They visited the Bass House, which is the Brundidge City Hall, and learned where people go to pay their bills for electricity, water and sewage,” he said. “The electric company brought its bucket truck and the children saw how it works. They were excited that a couple of teachers went up in the bucket.”

Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport talked with the children and they got to see the police car up close and hear the siren. The Pike County Sheriff’s Department participated and deputies talked with the children about safety. The Brundidge Volunteer Fire Department had a big red fire truck on display and the children got to hold the big, heavy fire hose.

Everett said inflatables provided fun and excitement and the children danced and got their faces painted in wild and wacky ways.

The children picnicked on the grounds and then participated in a balloon release in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

“It was a good day for the kids,” Everett said. “The more they know about the community where they live, the more they feel a part of it. I thank the City of Brundidge for, again, hosting this event. I thank the teachers, bus drivers and everyone who made Kindergarten Fun Day fun for our kids.”
