A Montgomery resident was charged with attempted murder Sunday after an early morning altercation in which a family member was shot in the face.

Javier Rosales, 32, of Montgomery, was arrested at approximately 12:15 Sunday in the 800 block of Rose Boulevard after officers received calls of a reported shooting in the area.

“Rosales shot a 36-year-old Hispanic male, who was related to him in some way,” Weed said. “The two were at a family gathering in the 800 block of Rose Boulevard when apparently there was some form of altercation between the two. “

The victim, who was unarmed, was shot in the face and the right arm with a 9 mm handgun, Weed said.

The victim was transported to Dothan and was in critical condition on Monday.

“We are unsure of what caused the altercation between the two,” Weed said. “There were more individuals at the location, but they were the only two people outside the residence. Everyone else was either inside the residence or somewhere else. There were no actual witnesses to the shooting itself.”

Weed said during the process of the investigation, officers determined Rosales was in the country illegally and Immigration Control has been notified.

Rosales was currently being held in the Pike County Jail on a $100,000 bond for attempted murder. This case is still under investigation by the Troy Police Department.
