The Pike County Board of Education worked from a short agenda at its meeting Monday afternoon, which included a presentation by the State of Alabama Examiners of Public Accounts of the board’s FY 2013 audited financial statements that included Title One and the Special Education Cluster.

The report to the board was that there were no findings as a result of the audit.

Jennifer Hornsby, chief financial officer for the board, made a presentation for the board’s consideration of a purchasing card program through which the board’s account payable claims could be paid. Hornsby said the purchasing card program would include a 1 percent rebate program payable in February of each year.

Hornsby told the board members that she could find no downside to the purchasing card program and that the board could opt out of the program at any time with no penalty.

After some discussion, and the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Mark Bazzell, the board voted to participate in the program for six months beginning Jan. 1, 2015.

“In June, we will decide if the program has been beneficial and whether to continue with the program or not,” Bazzell said.

In personnel action, the board accepted the resignation of Leigh Anne Suber as varsity cheerleader coach at Goshen High School, effective Dec. 19 and approved volunteer status for Wennica Foster for girls’ basketball at Pike County High School.

The board also approved catastrophic leave for Carolyn Coleman, bus driver.
