The Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Watershed Management Authority has provided $5,059.23 to assist the Pike County Soil and Water Conservation District with the creation of a Soil Tunnel Trailer that will provide environmental education outreach to students and citizens in Pike County.

The funds were presented to Josh Elliott, Pike County district conservationist, by Rep. Alan Boothe on Thursday. Boothe represents Pike County on the CPYRWMA.

Elliott said the walls of the trailer contain 3-D models of physical characteristics of regional soils and provide information on the interaction between soil and water.

“Facts about the water cycle and water usage are a permanent display,” he said. “It includes an interior demonstration of water filtration in soil and aquifers and a tabletop watershed model.”

Boothe said the project will provide environmental education to students, non-profit organizations, civic groups and the general public through activities and displays within and around the mobile learning center.

Elliott expressed appreciation to the CPYRWMA for its support of the Soil Tunnel Trailer project and its program potential for people of all ages in Pike County

Information about the Soil Tunnel Trailer is featured on the Pike County Soil and Water Conservation District Facebook page.
