Pugh D. Davis, age 87, of Troy, Alabama, died Saturday, October 25, 2014. Funeral services were held Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Murphy’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverends David Stewart and Steve Warren officiated. Graveside services followed in the Murphy’s Chapel Church Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation was held at Green Hills Funeral Home Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 5-7 p.m.

Mr. Davis was a lifetime resident of Pike County where he spent his time as a hardworking farmer and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He served in the Army and was a WWII veteran; he was a 32° Mason with Lodge 56 and a committed member of the American Legion Post 70. Mr. Davis was a longtime member of Murphy’s Chapel United Methodist Church and known to have been one of the oldest founding members of the church.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Catherine Davis; parents, J.M. and Sara Francis Davis; and brothers, E.L. “Shorty” Davis Sr., J.E. “Pig” Davis, J.G. “Bo” Davis, Jack Davis, and A. C. Castleberry. He is survived by his sons, Wayne Davis (Peggy) and Paul Davis (Deborah); grandchildren, Brock Davis (Holley) and Lauren Kilcrease (Adam); great-grandchildren, Patsy Ann, Laura Lynn and Ray Brock Davis, and Davis and Ansleigh Kilcrease; brother, O.G. Castleberry (Janice); and numerous nieces and nephews.
