Charles Henderson High senior defensive back and special team athlete Demario Harris remained in ICU and unresponsive Saturday at Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, the result of an injury sustained from Friday night’s football game.

“It’s tough for people right now; very, very tough right now,” said Dr. Lee Hicks, superintendent of Troy City Schools. “Demario is an outstanding student and outstanding athlete … He is just a perfect gentleman.”

“There’s only so much we can say right now,” he said. “But we appreciate the prayers and support for the family and for the whole CHHS and Troy City Schools family. The community has been very supportive, and we appreciate that.”

Counselors will be available for students from 2 to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at CHHS. “We want our students to know that counselors are available to help them, this weekend and throughout the week next week,” Hicks said.

Harris was injured during the second quarter of the Trojans’ 38-21 win over Davidson on Friday. Initial reports indicate Harris made a routine tackle, rose to his feet and then collapsed. Reports indicate Harris was non-responsive on the playing field.

Harris was transported by ambulance to Troy Regional Medical Center and was then air-lifted to Southeast Medical Center in Dothan.
