Troy Police on Monday were searching for suspects in a reported armed robbery at The Grove apartment complex. Samuel Williams, above, said he was robbed at gunpoint by two men who fled on foot. Williams said he jumped into his car after the robbery and attempted to drive off when he hit another car in the parking lot. He said the robbers climbed over the fence behind the apartment complex.

Troy Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspects in an armed robbery that took place Monday evening.

“Yesterday afternoon about 5 o’clock, we responded to the 900 block of Academy Street,” Weed said. “We made contact with our victim who stated when he was leaving his apartment going to his car he was approached by three black males they stopped him, produced a handgun and robbed him of some money and a cellphone.”

Weed said the victim attempted to leave the scene following the robbery, but wrecked his vehicle.

“He got in his car to leave after they got what they wanted,” Weed said, adding that the suspects were pointing a gun at the victim. “He sped up and wound up wrecking his vehicle.”

The three men fled the scene and were last seen heading in the direction of Moulton Court and Washington Street. The victim was able to give a description of one of the suspects.

“There were three, but he was able to give a pretty good description of one,” Weed said.

The suspect was described as a black male, 6 feet, 2 inches tall with a goatee and a star tattoo over his left eye. He was wearing basketball shorts at the time.

“We would like to ask if anybody has information to please call the Police Department at 566-0500 or 566-5555 at the Secret Witness, or they could turn in a tip at 215STOP(7867). “

This is the third crime as of late where the police department has requested the public’s help in gaining extra information, and Weed said to be aware of your surroundings and not be afraid to call for help.

“We would just like to emphasize to people to be aware of their surroundings,” Weed said. “If they see anybody that’s suspicious or out of place, just contact us and let us come out and make sure that they are not up to anything wrong or anything bad. We just need people to help us. Our biggest asset is the pubic.”
