Pike County Education Retiree group meets, plans year

The Pike County Education Retirees met recently in the Multipurpose Room at the Troy Recreation Department.

President Jean Sasser welcomed the members and visitors present and introduced the officers for the upcoming year. Officers include Jean Sasser, president; Doristine Sankey, vice-president; Ann McMillian, secretary; and Thelma Stephens, treasurer. Plans and ideas for the upcoming year were discussed.

Hank Jones, a past president of the group, led an inspiring and interesting discussion regarding the importance of belonging to a group. Several local and state programs and policies were discussed.

After delicious refreshments were served, each person present introduced themselves and told where they had worked. This led to a lively and interesting discussion on how teaching and working with children has changed throughout the years.

Members were reminded that our first regular meeting of the first regular meeting of the school year was on Sept. 3. All retired personnel of the Troy City and Pike County Schools were invited to attend this first meeting. Shelia Jackson, director of the City of Troy Department of Public Relations and Tourism presented the program.
