Zion Chapel faced Providence Christian Friday night in a battle of the defenses as both teams started off the game well, but the Zion Chapel Rebels fell short to the Eagles losing 51-27.

Zion Chapel head football coach Bradley Bowers said while the Rebels started strong, they ultimately beat themselves.

“We started off out strong,” Bowers said. “We came out at the beginning of the third quarter made them punt, we drove the ball down and scored and we cut it 25-20. We had some missed cues on special teams.”

Bowers said the Elba Tigers will come to Green Memorial Stadium next Friday, Sept. 4, and the Rebels would look to work on themselves before worrying about anything else.

“We play Elba next week,” Bowers said. “We know what they have. We’re going to worry about what we’re going to work on Zion Chapel. I told the guys when we got done that before we are going to be able to win a football game we have to not beat themselves.”

Bowers did also say the team had not made the same mistakes as last week.

“We made some mistakes last week, but we didn’t make the same ones,” Bowers said. “We worked on some things, but we just had some weird mistakes on special teams. But we’re going to work on it.”
