A former Pike County resident has been nominated by the Dallas AGD for the Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s (TAGD) Texas Dentist of the Year Award, considered one of the most prestigious awards for a Texas dentist.

The TAGD is the second largest dental organization in Texas with nearly 2,700 members who are dedicated to continuing dental education in their general practice.

To be nominated by a local AGD component or local dental society, dentists must demonstrate dedication to the profession, service to the community, commitment to the principles of continuing education and participation in other activities that indicate character and excellence.

Dr. T. Bob Davis is one of 18 dentists being nominated for the award this year. Davis, with the other nominees, will be honored at a gala Sept. 13, during TAGD’s annual Lone Star Dental Conference held in Austin.

Nominees will be recognized and receive an engraved plaque. The gala will conclude with the announcement of the 2014 Texas Dentist of the Year and the presentation f the award to the winner.

Davis graduated from University of Alabama School of Dentistry. Davis now maintains a practice in Dallas, Texas. Davis is a member of Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association. Davis currently serves as the Vice President of Education for the Academy of Dentistry International.

Davis has made an impact on the profession of dentistry through his constant support and representation of people in legislation. Davis also spent years traveling over Texas to stimulate the formation of study clubs, chapters and continuous education. His hard work has resulted in the revitalization of several chapters and study clubs.

Davis has lead mission trips to Mexico and Central America. Dr. Brett Murphey is a close acquaintance of Davis and has accompanied him on numerous mission trips over the years.

“I have been blessed with the opportunity to accompany him on 14 mission trips and have been able to see firsthand his skill, passion and serving heart,” Murphey said.
