The Pike County Sheriff’s Office made two arrests Tuesday and recovered $2,500 worth of property that had been stolen four months ago.

Sheriff Russell Thomas said a 2005 Honda TRX250 4-wheeler was stolen from a hunting camp in the northern part of the county. “The ignition had been taken out and hot-wired.”

Owners of the camp live in Montgomery County and had left the 4-wheeler on the property between hunting trips. The incident happened sometime between Feb. 2 and Feb. 23. “We recovered it not too far from where it was stolen,” Thomas said.

Deputies were able to recover the 4-wheeler thanks to a call from a resident in the area who reported a young man was running a 4-wheeler throughout the night.

“We followed tracks and came across the 4-wheeler hidden in the woods,” said Thomas.

The vehicle had a VIN number that identified it as stolen property. “Anything with a motor has a VIN number somewhere.”

Deputies staked out the area for a few hours and caught four suspects when they returned for the vehicle..

Two of the suspects were arrested. Brandon Hollinghead, 21, of Ramar, was charged with theft of property second degree. Javoris Jermaine Brown, 35, of Troy, was charged with possession of stolen property second degree. The other two suspects had come to look at the 4-wheeler and perhaps purchase it. Neither was aware it was stolen.

Thomas said residents should never hesitate reporting suspicious activity. “You never know, your actions could prevent a crime or help us catch the bad guys.”
