Refreshed Charles Henderson ready for stretch run

Charles Henderson head softball coach Trent Givens told himself he was going to take a couple days of spring break and not think about softball.
Only he knows if he actually did. But the time for rest and relaxation has come to an end for the Trojans.
The flip-flops sun hats have been put away and have been replaced by spikes and batting helmets as the Lady Trojans enter the stretch run of the 2014 season.
Following last Friday’s 10-5 win over Pine Forest, Givens hoped his team was coming alive late.
“The win gives us some momentum headed in to Thursday’s game and our tournament coming up,” said Givens. “The got some much needed rest and it is well deserved. A win heading in the break was exactly what we needed, and hopefully we will come out strong in the second half.”
Charles Henderson hosts 6A Central-Phenix City on Thursday and travels to Carbon Hill on Saturday to take part in a tournament.
Thursday’s game against Central will mark the seventh game this season against 6A competition for the Lady Trojans.
Givens feels playing the best teams in the state will help his team during the most crucial time of the year.
“It all comes down to area play,” said Givens. “If we play the best now, then we won’t be overwhelmed when we see Headland and Ashford.”
Thursday’s game is set for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
