Charles Henderson golf coach Shelby Tuck has one goal for his team this season, and it took a big step toward it Monday afternoon.

The Trojans won the team portion of the event, and Tuck couldn’t be more excited for the season.

“Our goal is to make sectionals as a team this year,” said Tuck. “We have had individuals make it before, but I want the team to compete this year. The win at Andalusia gives us all kinds of confidence now.”

Charles Henderson bested Andalusia to win the team event, despite worsening weather conditions.

When the team left Troy early in the day, temperatures hovered around 65 degrees. But as a weather front pushed through, the temps dropped and the winds began to howl.

“It was less than ideal out there,” said Tuck. “Some of our players even had shorts on, because when we left Troy everything was fine. It was kind of like watching a British Open. The pros struggle with it there, so you wan imagine what it was doing to high school kids. The wind was pushing balls 50 yards left or right of where they wanted, but they never complained. I think I was a bigger baby about the weather than they were.”

Lindsay Lee was the low female for the Trojans, and Tuck pointed out Trace Jackson and Ryley Williamson as two of the top boys players.

Charles Henderson will travel to Enterprise on Tuesday to compete in a match, before hosting Andalusia and Straughn at the Troy County Club next Thursday.
