Bond was set at $100,000 Thursday for the Troy University student suspected of fatally shooting a friend and fellow student at a house party in Crenshaw County early New Year’s Day.

Taylor Driggers, 19, of Brantley, was charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of Kristin Fuller, 18, of Luverne.

He is being held in the Crenshaw County Jail through the weekend and will not be permitted to make his bond until Tuesday morning, according to District Attorney Charlotte Tesmer.

“It’s our policy (to delay a suspect’s release) until after the victim’s family has had time for the burial,” she said.

In addition to the setting of bond, “the judge admonished him about being around drugs, alcohol or firearms,” she said.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation, which is the investigative division of the Alabama Department of Public Safety, is leading the investigation into the incident.

“We were asked by the District Attorney’s office and Crenshaw County sheriff to investigate it,” said Trooper Kevin Cook.

Fuller was killed by a single shot, fired from a shotgun, Tesmer said. It was the only shot fired in the incident, which remains under investigation.

“There were approximately eight people in the house at the time,” Tesmer said. “We’re interviewing and re-interviewing them.”

While no toxicology information has been released, Tesmer said “apparently there had been some drinking of alcohol earlier in the evening.”

She said because the incident is still under investigation, the charges against Driggers could change.

Tesmer said once Driggers is released from jail, he will be placed on house arrest until his initial preliminary hearing, which likely will be set in February.

According to a university official, Driggers is automatically suspended until resolution of the charges against him.

Driggers was a part of Brantley High School’s 2012 15-0 State Championship team and had planned to play football at Troy next season.

“Driggers signed with Troy to play football in Feb. 2013, but he has yet to join the team,” said a statement released by the university. “It was anticipated that he would join the team in the spring or summer of 2014.”
