The Goshen Eagles fell just 10 points shy of having a perfect weekend.

Goshen hosted 16 teams in the second annual Goshen Holiday Tournament, opened a sparking new gymnasium and had the boy’s team reach the finals of the tournament.

While the boys lost to Geneva 69-59 in the tournament finals, head coach Johnny Mitchell felt the weekend went wonderful.

“It has been a great weekend of basketball and a great weekend for Goshen,” Mitchell said. “We came in to the weekend wanting to play well, and we made it to the title game. We like we are headed as a team, and maybe this weekend is our spark.”

Geneva won the boys title, and Samson captured the girls tourney championship.

In addition to the play of his team, Mitchell likes the future of the Goshen basketball program.

“This new facility is gorgeous, and will be the home of some really good basketball in the future,” Mitchell said. “I plan on being for a long time and really like where we are going. Goshen will be back to where it belongs.”
