Levie James Herndon Jr.

Levie James (Jim) Herndon, Jr, 86, formerly of Maple Hill, died Monday, December 9, 2013 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC. He was born January 3, 1927 in Pike County, AL to the late Levie James Herndon, Sr. and Gladys M. Herndon. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Townsley Herndon; brother, Charles Herndon; and sister, Kitty H. Fowler.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 13, 2013, in Jacksonville, NC at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonvile Chapel. Burial followed with military honors at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Jim was a retired Chief Hospital Corpsman, serving with the U.S. Navy and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He and his wife owned and operated H&H Mobile Homes in Jacksonville for 20 years.

He is survived by daughters Rose Anne Bryant of Conover NC; Patricia Hatch and husband, Ralph, of Conover NC; son, Levie James Herndon, Ill of San Antonio, TX; sister Joanne Nunnelee and husband Bob of Troy, AL; grandchildren Patrick Bryant and wife Jamie of Easley, SC; Ryan Hatch and Russell Hatch of Conover NC; Jennifer Herndon of Columbus OH; Kaitlyn WalIpe of Japan; and great grandsons Mason and Nathaniel Bryant of Easley SC.
