Gallery hosts free weekend arts event

Studio 116 in downtown Brundidge has a lot for people with artistic inclinations to do this weekend and most of it’s free.

Saturday morning, a nascent art therapist will present information about the field of art therapy and how art can be used for therapeutic means.

The presentation begins at 10 a.m. And, directly following the presentation, there will be an art therapy activity for the participants.

The presentation and art activity are free.

“The presenter will be Megan Welch, who is a recent art graduate from Troy University,” said Sara Dismukes, studio co-director. “Megan is a current graduate student studying Art Therapy. We are looking forward to having her at studio 116.”

Following the Art Therapy presentation, Welch will direct a workshop on papermaking.

“It has been a long time since we offered this popular workshop,” Dismukes said. The focus of this workshop will be the basics of papermaking. The workshop is at 2 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $20 and includes all materials.

On Saturday night, studio 116 has a great, first-time event planned.

“We’ll have an evening of Poetry and Spoken Word,” Dismukes said. “This will be incredible. We’re looking forward to seeing what local writers, poets and performers are up to and also meeting some new creative folks in the area.”

Kimberly McClure will host the Poetry and Spoken Word event, which starts at 7:30 p.m.

There is no admission for the event. Donations are always welcome.”
