The Pike County School System will hold its sixth annual Parent Expo at the Pike County Cattleman’s Complex from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Parents are invited to come and learn about the many aspects of Pike County Schools and visit with community partners.

“The Parent Expo has been a very positive event for the Pike County School over the years,” said Dr. Mark Bazzell, System superintendent. “Attendance continues to grow each year. The Parent Expo is a great opportunity for parents to, not only meet and visit with the teachers in their school, but also to look at all of the opportunities offered system wide.”

Bazzell said parents often hear about the different academic programs offered but are not sure how they work.

“The Parent Expo provides information about these programs, from the academies to Global Studies,” he said. “Parents also will be able to see how we conduct and manage our math and reading programs.

“Teachers will demonstrate different technology applications used in instruction and ways we use technology in the classroom.”

Each school will have a showcase presentation and the presentations have been planned so that there will be no duplications.

“A lot can be learned about the Pike County School System through participation in the Parent Expo,” Bazzell said. “We will also have resources to be picked up that will provide additional information.”

Parents will receive school materials and supplies for their children.

The Parent Expo also offers a variety of fun activities for the students. A Fun Zone will be set up for children of all ages and will include inflatables, music, face painting and many more fun activities. Refreshments will be available.

The Alabama Department of Public Health will offer flu shots for $5.

Bazzell expressed appreciation to the central office staff and the principals and teachers for all of the hard work that has gone into making the 2013 Parent Expo successful in bringing greater awareness of all the Pike County School System has to offer its students.
