Pike Liberal quarterback Rush Hixon, an avid Auburn Tiger fan, tried out his best Cam Newton impersonation by picking up 132 yards rushing, along with 2 touchdowns on just six carries in a 60-0 rout over the Lyman Ward Fighting Rangers on homecoming Friday last week.

Hixon was also 4-for-6 for 81 yards and a score in the air.

The junior Patriot signal caller had two long runs called back for holding penalties, negating what could have possibly been a 200-yard rushing game.

Hixon led an offensive explosion for Pike Friday night. Coming in to the game, the Patriots were averaging just seven points a game through the first two games, before hanging 60 on the board against Lyman Ward.

Defense: Anthony Rogers, LB – Goshen

Anthony Rogers’ stand out game against New Brockton High School earned him Defensive Player of the Week honors. Rogers recorded nine total tackles on the night, with one sack and four tackles for loss. Rogers also forced and recovered a fumble deep in Goshen territory to keep the Eagles firmly ahead in the second quarter.

Rogers, a linebacker, helped the Eagles hold the high-powered New Brockton offense in check for the majority of the night. The Gamecocks’ offense came in to the game averaging 47 points per contest, and only mustered 14 against the Eagles.

The win also kept Goshen in the early-season hunt for a region title and playoff spot
