Smiths Station, Enterprise to meet in finals

Smiths Station used the long ball to power its way to the finals of the 2013 Dixie O-Zone Alabama State Tournament.

In the first game of the day, Hunter Milam went deep in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with a 9-7 victory of Enterprise.

Smiths Station’s win forced Enterprise in to the loser’s bracket, and guaranteed a game on Friday. However, Enterprise received the bye, and Smiths Station was forced to battler Opelika in a semi-final game.

Smiths Station scored seven runs in the first inning, including towering grand slam from Chase Locklar to ease away from Opelika early.

Later in the game, pitcher Joseph Wade helped out his own cause with a solo shot that just hooked in the foul pole.

Enterprise and Smiths Station will meet in the state title game at 1:30 P.m. at the Troy Sportsplex on Enzor Road.

The winner of the game will represent Alabama at the Dixie O-Zone World Series in Laurel, Miss. in August.
