Troy City Councilwoman Dejerilyn King Henderson has been offered a scholarship to attend the National League of Cities 21st Annual Leadership Summit in Savannah, Ga.

The focus of this year’s summit is how to focus on strengths and find common ground.

“I am thrilled to my soul,” Henderson said. “I am so excited to attend this leadership conference because I am all about learning everything I can to be an effective leader.

Henderson was selected as a second-place award recipient of the annual Michael H.T. Lynch Memorial Scholarship due to her “application and strong, thoughtful personal statement” she submitted to be considered for the award.

“I think they chose me because this is my first term and I have tried for all these years to get elected,” Henderson said. “And I think they took notice of the role I played in changing the form of our government here.”

Henderson aided in the push about three decades ago to move to a mayor/council government in Troy.

“I feel that this opportunity will help me become a better leader for my constituents and the city,” Henderson said.
