The Troy Dixie Pre-Majors team is headed to the state tournament after earning a runner-up spot in district play.

The Pre-Majors, coached by Gary Fox and Steve Grice, competed in the district tournament in Opp on Friday and Saturday, defeating Opp 8-4 and falling twice to Greenville, 11-4 and 9-8.

“I’m proud of the guys,” Fox said after Saturday’s one-run loss to Greenville. “They played a very good Greenville team that is an older group. We held them to one run for five innings.”

Players on the team include Adam Grice, John Stephen Grice, Nathan Fox, Reilly Fox, Miles Loving, Ty Witherington, Drew Starling, Wright Graning, Cole Wilson, Connor Wood, Justin Helms and Blake Craft.

The team was 3-2 in regular season play.
