After hosting several mud runs during the first part of 2013, the staff at Camp Butter and Egg are busy prepping for another one.

The Red, White and Blue Mud Run is set for July 6 and will feature events of two different lengths.

There will be two races: a 5K race for adults and teens, and a children’s race, covering 1.3 miles. The course will feature obstacles of cargo nets, inclines, mud pits, hay bales, slides and hills scattered throughout the trail, with the guarantee of lots of dirt and mud to show for one’s effort at the finish line.

Ron Pierce, of Camp Butter and Egg, said that the events have really taken off.

“We had out first one a few months ago, and it turned out to be a lot bigger than we expected,” Pierce said. “We know that folks have a lot of stuff going on in the summer, but we think the next one will be big as well.”

Individuals, as well as teams, may compete and awards will be given for the fastest times in each age category.

The early registration fee of $30 for adults and $20 for children may be paid on-line at campbutterandegg.com. Military and college student discounts are offered. Late registration, after June 29th, is $10.00 more and will be accepted until 9:00 a.m. on race day. Water and fruit will be supplied to racers and concessions, along with adventure recreation packages, will be sold on-site.

“It is completely different from just running,” said Pierce. “Some folks like to challenge themselves against the course, while others really work and want to be the first ones across the finish line. We will guarantee you that we will have plenty of mud.”
