A season of championships for the members of the Charles Henderson baseball players and alumni got even sweeter last week.

Former CHHS star Jalin Lawson helped his Central Alabama Community College Trojans capture the 2013 NJCAA Division I Baseball National Championship in Grand Junction, Coloardo last week.

Lawson and CACC Trojans knocked off Palm Beach State 7-3 to claim the school’s long awaited championship.

Lawson said that the title was one of the biggest moments of his life.

“It was just an amazing feeling.” Lawson said. “To know that all your hard work paid off with a title is just awesome.”

Lawson, a freshman, appeared in 27 games for Central Alabama this season, batting .190 with 15 RBIs.

Charles Henderson head coach Derek Irons, Lawson’s high school skipper, said that the freshman posseses one of the best bats he has have seen.

“He is a talented of a batter that I have seen in my time as a coach,” Irons said. “But he is also very versatile in the field, as well. He provided a great lift for them at the plate and in the field.”

Lawson said that with the success of Charles Henderson, Troy and Central Alabama, he feels that 2013 has been the “Year of the Trojans.”

“I was so happy for those guys (Charles Henderson) to win that title,” said Lawson. “Coach Irons does great, and those players worked hard to get there. This year won’t be the last that we are all winning, and celebrating championships.”
