The Troy Tiger Sharks hosted their first swim meet of the season over the weekend, and head coach Shane Tatum is confident that the team is off to a good start.

The Tiger Sharks swam against Dothan and Andalusia on Saturday at the Troy Parks and Recreation Department, and showed Tatum things that can be built on throughout the summer stretch.

“I feel that the meet went really well,” Tatum said. “We didn’t have a perfect meet, but will have some stuff to work on this week as we get ready for out next one on June 8.”

Tatum said that the issues that need work cover some of the biggest parts of swimming. He feels that the swimmers need a little work on their strokes, confidence and conditioning.

“We have some stroke work to do, and need to build some confidence in our younger swimmers,” Tatum said. “We also need to build our conditioning. Some of our swimmers are in their first time swimming competitively, so they may not quite be in swimmer shape yet.”

Despite the issues early, Tatum feels that the team does have some leaders in returning swimmers.

“Some of the kids that were on the team last season have really done well early on,” Tatum said. “We set some goals for them, and some of them have already exceeded them, so that is a good sign to the see them ahead of pace.”

Troy will travel to Andalusia for a meet on Saturday.
