Alice Warren Deal passed away on May 20, 2013 at Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital.

Alice was born in Norfolk on September 14, 1931. She was the daughter of James Harrison Deal, Sr. and Ella Harrell Deal. She attended Maury High School and graduated in January 1950. In 1953 she earned her R.N. from Norfolk General Hospital. Later when Old Dominion University began offering a degree program in nursing, she enrolled part-time, graduating in May 1969. A few years later, she received a Master’s Degree from the University of Alabama. She taught pediatric nursing at the University of South Carolina, Spartanburg; the Childrens’ Hospital, Philadelphia, PA; Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA; and retired from Troy State University, Troy, AL. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

She loved to entertain and was known for her outgoing, bubbly personality. She had friends, co-workers and students that she corresponded with in practically every state. She will be sorely missed.

Alice is survived by her sister, Carol Hudgins and a brother, Jim Deal Jr. and wife Maryanne; nephews, Mark Hudgins, Glenn Hudgins and wife Celia; plus several cousins and great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday May 28, 2013 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, where the family will receive friends thirty minutes prior. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Rev. Terry Spencer will officiate. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
