Local farmers and those with livestock will have an opportunity to talk about hay production in the area this Thursday.

“This meeting will feature Extension specialists Drs. Jennifer Johnson, Kathy Flanders and Charles Mitchell, who all have tremendous knowledge and expertise in the area of hay production,” said Grant Lyons, Pike County Extension coordinator.

A regional hay production meeting will be held at BamaJam Farms in Enterprise where attendees will have a chance to learn about and discuss forage quality for hay production, insect control and nutrient management. Max Runge, Extension economist, will discuss the economic considerations of hay production.

Hay equipment demonstrations will conclude the program.

“The demonstrations are always a nice part of programs like these, where our participants can see the machines and practices up close and in action,” Lyons said.

The regional hay production meeting will begin at 8 a.m. and is free and open to anyone interested in hay production.

The program is sponsored by AGCO/Massey Ferguson and a lunch, also provided by the sponsor, will be offered prior to the demonstrations.
