As the 2012-13 academic year comes to a close the Charles Henderson golf team is making its final preparations for the postseason.

The Trojans’ head coach Shelby Tuck says the team has shown great improvement over the course of the regular season and is excited for those that will qualify to compete in sectionals on April 29-30.

“We’re a very young team right now but the team has been working really hard. I feel like we should get two or three to qualify for sectionals,” Tuck said. “They are a great group of kids to work with and though we’re young right now, the future is looking really bright for this bunch.”

While the youthful team of Trojans hasn’t won a tournament this year, they have shown signs of greatness by finishing second and third regularly against much more seasoned competition.

Charles Henderson golf team is comprised of two seniors, one junior, two sophomores, five freshmen and a seventh-grader.

One of the high-points for Tuck this season has been the play of the team’s lone female, Lindsay Lee.

“In most of the tournaments we’ve played in she has been the low-scoring female,” Tuck said of the freshman. “She puts in the work that is needed to get better. She has really worked on her short game. “

The Trojans will compete in their final tune-up tournament today at the Troy Country Club. Start time is set for 12:30 p.m.

“I’ve been pleased with the way this team has played this year. We’ve been just a few putts away from winning a couple of our tournaments, that’s something that I think we’ll improve on in the coming years,” Tuck said. “If you’re that close to winning tournaments with such a young group, you can’t help but be excited about the future.”

Members of the Charles Henderson golf team include: Alexander Dorrity, Carter Ray, Curtis Thomas, Jalen Tuck, James Jackson, Lindsay Lee, Ryley Williamson, Taylor Manning, William Lee, Williams Worthington and Zachary Minor.
