The Pike County Cattlemen’s Annual Equipment Auction is set for Saturday at Cattleman Park.

“Those who plan to bid need to come at 7 o’clock Saturday morning to get a bidder’s number,” Garrett said. “You get the numbers inside the Cattleman’s building. And, you’ll go back inside to pay for the items you win the bid on. Then, you have a week to pick them up.”

Garrett said this year’s equipment auction has anything and everything that could be found on a farm.

“And just about anything you can find around the house, too,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of stuff.

“We usually have a couple of tractors and, this year, we’ve already got seven or eight. And, we’ve got eight to 10 vehicles and I expect we’ll have 20 or 30 by the time the auction starts. We’ve got trailers, planters, plows, hay rakes, – all kinds for farm equipment. And, we’ve got some mule items and wash pots. You name it.”

The Pike County Cattlemen’s Equipment Auction is the Cattlemen’s biggest fundraiser along with the annual professional cowboy rodeo.

“Buyers come in from all across Alabama, from down in the edge of Florida and from over in Georgia,” Garrett said. “We’ve had people come from Tennessee. We have sellers from all around and sellers are usually buyers, too. We’re proud to have them all.”

There is no admission charge to the equipment auction, and for the convenience of those in attendance, the Cattleman will have hamburgers, hotdogs, snack items and beverages available at the concession stand inside the building.

Funds raised by the auction are used to maintain the building and grounds at Cattleman Park, to assist the Junior Cattlemen’s Association and the local 4-H program and for scholarships awarded by the Cattlemen.
